Where We Live Speaker Series: Foxfire
On Monday, August 21 at 6:30 pm, our “Where We Live: History, Nature, and Culture” speaker series will present a program on Foxfire, its history and role in the community. Foxfire is a nonprofit organization based in northern Georgia, designed to preserve Appalachian heritage. Founded in 1966 by a group of high school students, Foxfire has been serving its community for over 50 years. Foxfire is illustrative of a way of life – our way of life that has been proven to be honest and true. Through reading about the struggles and triumphs of our ancestors, we learn from the wisdom that is passed down and shared among our community. This is achieved through local folklore, front porch stories and with the help of the Foxfire program – magazines, books, music and the rich landscape of the mountains.
