Mother’s Day Piano Concert

Mother’s Day Piano Concert in Franklin May 12

Leonidas Lagrimas will present “Musical Storytellers: A Piano Recital,” on Sunday, May 12, at 3:00 p.m., in Franklin’s First Presbyterian Church.  The program features classical works for solo and piano duet (with Dr. Lyn Burkett) by J.S. Bach, Debussy, Mozart, Ravel, and Scarlatti – works that explore music’s ability to tell stories, express emotions, and paint pictures through sound.

Dr. Lagrimas, WCU School of Music Assistant Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy, frequently performs guest recitals throughout the region.  His collaborative piano highlights include performances with country music superstar Lorrie Morgan, Grammy-winning soprano Hila Plitmann, and multiple Carnegie Hall appearances.  He holds National Certification (NCTM) in Piano from MTNA and a Ph.D. in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Florida State University.  He serves as pianist for Christ Anglican Church in Cashiers, NC, and maintains a private piano studio.

Dr. Lyn Ellen Burkett, WCU Assistant Professor of Practice in Music, is an accomplished pianist and harpsichordist who especially enjoys performing 20th and 21st century repertoire.  She studied piano with Carolyn Bridger, Mary Ann Covert, and Gary Wolf, and harpsichord with Elisabeth Wright and Karyl Louwenaar-Lueck.  She holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from Indiana University, a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Ithaca College, and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Central Florida.  Her research has focused on composers and their creative work processes; her scholarly work has appeared in many publications and has been presented at regional and national conferences.

First Presbyterian Church is at 26 Church Street, a block north of Franklin’s Main Street, with wheelchair access from the church parking lot.  Admission is by donation.  This program is produced by the Arts Council, 828-524-ARTS or email
