Friends of the Greenway is a 501c(3) member organization formed to supplement and support efforts in the care and enhancement of the Little Tennessee River Greenway in Macon County, NC. This scenic trail is owned and maintained by the County. FROG played an integral part in the establishment of the trail and continues to provide volunteers to assist with trail upkeep and to raise funds for Greenway-related enhancement projects. FROG Quarters is located on Main Street near the river and offers a Coffee Shop and Gift Shop, featuring nature, FROG and Greenway-related items for purchase, as well as Greenway maps. The Greenway, an amazing community resource, is our passion!
The Region A Partnership for Children administers North Carolina’s Smart Start and NC Pre-K initiatives in Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties and on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. We have offices in Sylva and Murphy serving children birth to five and their families in child care and with home visiting family support programs. The overall goal of the Partnership is to ensure that all children arrive at school healthy and prepared to succeed in school and in life.

The Folk Heritage Association of Macon County(FHAMC) is a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to preserving and sharing the culture and folkways of our Southern Appalachian Mountains. Projects include coordinating Heritage activities such as the Franklin Area Folk Festival, Heritage Day activities for 4th graders, and partnerships at the Cowee School, Arts and Heritage Center. In October of 2018 a new project of the FHAMC kicked off – The Women’s History Trail of Macon County.
The Nantahala Hiking Club (NHC) is one of 31 volunteer Appalachian Trail maintaining clubs of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The NHC maintains 58.6 miles of the AT from Bly Gap at the Georgia/North Carolina border to the Nantahala Outdoor Center on the Nantahala River at Wesser, NC. The club also maintains several trails that connect to the AT. The Nantahala Hiking Club conducts hikes on most Saturdays, Sundays and occasional weekday hikes. Join us!
The Arts Council of Macon County works year round to develop and present high quality, diverse, accessible arts programs to entertain, inform, and inspire us all. We serve the county with community concerts, Artists-in-the-Schools, and mini grants to other non-profits producing community arts programs.
Adult and Teen Challenge of the Smokies Men’s Center (formerly Men’s Teen Challenge) is a long tern addiction recovery program that is Christ Centered and Bible based. We teach those wrestling with addiction a whole new set of life skills and coping skills. It is a 12 month residential program for men 18 – 50+ years old and serves the entire Western North Carolina region and beyond.
Providing medical services to vulnerable women only scratches the surface of SMPCC’s ministry. We recognize that unexpected pregnancy is really a symptom of many compounded life choices and habits that intricately involve a woman’s heart, soul, mind and body. At SMPCC, we love women and recognize that during times of crisis, the stakes are high for them.
