Macon County Humane Society, dba Appalachian Animal Rescue Center, is a nonprofit, 501(c)3, no-kill organization, consisting of a shelter on Lake Emory Road, a Thrift Store on Old Murphy Road, our staff, volunteers, and an active Board of Directors.  Our mission is to provide shelter for abandoned and stray dogs and cats, and to prevent abuse, promote adoptions, and to educate the public in the proper and ethical care and treatment of animals.
