Dogwood Health Trust is a nonprofit organization that exists to dramatically improve the health and wellbeing of all people and communities of Western North Carolina.

Nikwasi Initiative preserves, protects, and promotes culture and heritage in the original homeland of the Cherokee people. We provide educational opportunities, revitalize landscapes with traditional agriculture and plants, establish visitor waysides, and share cultural practices.
Providing medical services to vulnerable women only scratches the surface of SMPCC’s ministry. We recognize that unexpected pregnancy is really a symptom of many compounded life choices and habits that intricately involve a woman’s heart, soul, mind and body. At SMPCC, we love women and recognize that during times of crisis, the stakes are high for them.
828 VETS promotes growth, awareness and success for veterans in business. We are also here to offer additional support to local veterans in need by connecting them with both area resources, as well as, our supportive community members.

The Taste of Scotland Society, Inc is a 501 non-profit organization that sponsors Burnes Night in January and Taste of Scotland Festival in June. We also help people find their Scottish heritage and sponsor events as Ceilidh and concerts during the year.
The Region A Partnership for Children administers North Carolina’s Smart Start and NC Pre-K initiatives in Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties and on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. We have offices in Sylva and Murphy serving children birth to five and their families in child care and with home visiting family support programs. The overall goal of the Partnership is to ensure that all children arrive at school healthy and prepared to succeed in school and in life.

The Nantahala Hiking Club (NHC) is one of 31 volunteer Appalachian Trail maintaining clubs of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The NHC maintains 58.6 miles of the AT from Bly Gap at the Georgia/North Carolina border to the Nantahala Outdoor Center on the Nantahala River at Wesser, NC. The club also maintains several trails that connect to the AT. The Nantahala Hiking Club conducts hikes on most Saturdays, Sundays and occasional weekday hikes. Join us!
The Special Liberty Project fosters and maintains a supportive community focused on nurturing families of our nation’s fallen military heroes (Gold Star Families), healing Veterans and supporting suicide widows by connecting with nature. Special Liberty’s nature centric programs provide outdoor, educational experiences, spark true camaraderie and encourage strength, both emotionally and physically. Franklin is home to the SLP headquarters, along with their healing farm and retreat center.
Heart for Families is a faith-based, non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization, a community coalition working to make a generational impact by enriching marriage and family relationships. Our missions is to provide resources, training and events to help strengthen, enrich, heal, and sustain marriage and family relationships.
The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) works with families, businesses and nonprofits to strengthen communities through the creation of charitable funds and strategic grant making. Grants are made to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations and public agencies serving the following 18 counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, MacDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey. Through a careful review process, the Foundation’s staff and board work together to award grants that strengthen the nonprofit sector. In simple terms, CFWNC grants are an investment in the future of our region.
Our council is a community organization consisting of local residents, businesses, members of our local government, and members of the National Forest supported by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Our goal is to unify our community around the Appalachian Trail and our rich abundance of outdoor resources. Our purpose is to promote, protect and educate.
